INTERNET BUYING TIPS FOR MOTORCYCLES

Finding that certain bike has never been easier thanks to the Internet.  But it doesn't come without some risk. Chances are you'll never physically meet the seller of the bike, or closely inspect the bike before you buy it.  Here are several tips to consider before you purchase a motorcycle over the Internet.

Tip # 1:  Get a third party involved.

Find a motorcycle dealer close to where the bike you are going to purchase is located. Call them and ask if they would work as a liaison in your purchase. Since it's unlikely you'll be able to see the bike up close, get an unbiased third party to check over your bike, it's title, and handle the details of the sale. Most cycle shops will be happy to do this for you for under $50.00.

Tip # 2:  Make sure the title is clean.

Imagine paying out $10,000.00 for a motorcycle that you cannot title. It's happened before. Have your third party check to make sure the title is clean and the serial numbers all match up. Sometimes a call to the local police department is all you need.

Tip # 3:  If you plan on having your bike shipped . . .

> Allow time for transport

Keep in mind that most ground shipments are geographically grouped together, in other words, your bike will be one of many  deliveries on the truck.  So if you need your bike by a certain time, make sure you allow anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks for delivery.

> Allow money for transport.

Get an estimate on what it will cost to get your bike delivered to you. Shipping costs are based on mileage.

 > Extra Parts

If you're using a motorcycle transportation specialist such as HaulBikes, extra parts, tires, exhaust systems, etc., will have to be shipped using a separate delivery service like UPS.  If your purchase comes with an extra fairing and it's large, shipping may cost a significant amount.

Make sure all of these considerations fall within your budget BEFORE you buy.
